Interests and studies

His interest in music started at an early age. He started music studies during her primary school years and then took oud, ney and piano lessons in different periods. In 1999-2000, she studied Turkish Art Music makam usul and singing, and in 2003-2004, she attended Selmin Günöz’s singing lessons at Dokuz Eylül University State Conservatory and studied Classical Western Music and singing voice. He has performed/is performing in various concerts as an amateur.
His intense interest in the physics of sound and the human voice continued to increase after his ENT specialty training at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Otorhinolaryngology. He focused his studies on Vocology, which is a relatively new branch of science in the world, created for the scientific research and development of the human voice and the treatment of voice disorders. He had the opportunity to work on various voice therapy methods and singing pedagogy with domestic and international trainings.
Dr. İlter Denizoğlu established the Vocology Unit within the ENT Clinic of Alsancak State Hospital in 2003. After working for nearly 10 years in this center, he was invited to İzmir Katip Çelebi University Atatürk Training and Research Hospital Otolaryngology Clinic in 2012-2013 and established the Vocology Unit. He currently continues his clinical work in the Vocology Unit of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Izmir University Faculty of Medicine. The centers established by Dr. Denizoğlu in the field of vocology have become reference clinics to which professional voice users from many regions of our country apply.
In the Vocology Unit of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Izmir University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, where he is currently working, advanced methods for voice evaluation such as voice analysis, electroglottography, videolaryngostroboscopy, as well as voice therapy and phonosurgery are applied when necessary. The Vocology Unit, where singing therapy, voice therapy and voice surgery are performed by Dr. Denizoğlu, has facilities that meet international criteria. ENT specialists, speech and language therapists and audiologists from various centers in and outside the province are admitted to the unit for training purposes (as observers).
Prof. Dr. İlter Denizoğlu has revealed the physiopathological mechanisms of the Lax Vox Voice Therapy Technique, which is a Finnish originated voice therapy technique and described by Marketta Sihvo PhD. As a trainer of this technique, which he also contributed to its development, he organizes courses at international and national voice meetings.
His book ‘Clinical Vocology: Voice Therapy’, which is one of the few original Turkish reference works on this subject. Dr. Denizoğlu, who is fluent in English, participates in scientific book translation studies on the subject.
Working on new projects in the field of Basic Vocology for the research and development of the singing voice, Dr. Denizoğlu carried out the project of two devices named ‘Laringoaltimeter’, which facilitates the low larynx technique used in classical singing, and ‘Vocal Posturometer’, which is realized for the correction of posture / posture disorders, which is of great importance in singing, together with Assoc Prof Murat Pehlivan, a faculty member of Ege University Biophysics Department. The last of these inventions, NIPA (Negative Inertance Phonation Apparatus), which continues to work on patent and clinical application, is a step towards finding the natural voice of the singer, which is also defined as primitive voice. These studies, which have also attracted attention in our country, have been deemed worthy of awards (Professional Voice Association 2008 best study award published in international literature (Laryngoaltimeter); 31st National Turkish Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Congress 2009 best scientific research award (Posturometer); 9th International Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Congress 2010 best study award (NIPA – Negative Inertance Phonation Approach)).
The phonosurgery operation set developed and drawn by Dr. İlter Denizoğlu, who continues to work in the field of voice surgery, is still manufactured by national surgical instrument companies. Patent and production studies of his latest invention named SESAÇAR are ongoing. In order to complete the big picture of the human voice, he started his PhD studies at Ege University, Department of Biophysics in the spring semester of 2011. He is also continuing his master’s degree in Audiology and Speech Disorders at Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, which he started in the spring semester of 2013.
He was awarded the ‘Doctor of the Year’ award in 2010 by the Turkish Ministry of Health for his work on vocology.
Dr. İlter Denizoğlu also continues his research and development studies on singing voice. In order to create the singing voice in the most appropriate conditions, he conducts rehabilitation/habilitation practices with singing pedagogues, singing students and vocal artists with different musical understandings, and organizes training seminars at TOBAV and various conservatories. She works with professional vocal performers who continue their active singing life in institutions such as Izmir State Opera, TRT Izmir Radio, State Classical Turkish Music Choir. It also continues its training activities in institutions such as schools and call centers where professional voice users work intensively. In order to increase the awareness of the public about the voice and to raise the level of knowledge on this subject, he has a website, statements and articles in various magazines and newspapers.
Dr. Denizoğlu, who has been preparing the Pedagogical Vocology course curriculum with vocal artists and singing pedagogues for more than 10 years, has been teaching this course, which has been included in the official course program of Ege, Dokuz Eylül and Yaşar University senates, in the conservatories of all three universities. He continues her educational studies on singing voice as a part-time faculty member to teach Vocal Health Course at Ege University State Conservatory of Turkish Music, Department of Basic Sciences; Vocology Course at Dokuz Eylül University State Conservatory of Performing Arts, Department of Opera; and Vocology Course at Yaşar University Faculty of Art and Design, Department of Music, Department of Singing.
He has focused on ‘art medicine’, which is an important gap in performing arts and is necessary to solve the professional problems of professional vocal performers.
